My clients always tell me they would love to see how I decorate myself with my own family portraits and so I took some quick pictures today of my living room and hallway. I have more rooms to show and figure I will do an installment on different rooms so you can get ideas yourself on how to show off those gorgeous portraits that you order from us.
The canvas over my mantel is 30×40 and honestly I could have gone a tad bigger, but I do like to layer other size prints on the mantel so I think it works. When I suggest that my clients go big it’s for a purpose. You can’t have a tiny 11×14 hanging above your fireplace or behind your couch. It would just look silly, so when selecting portrait art be mindful of where you will be hanging it. This isn’t to say there is no place for smaller portraits, but those should be grouped so they can still make a statement.
Most people assume that I work mostly in my studio, but I mainly edit from my home office so this desk in my living room is my work horse.
As you can see I have 3 mounted framed 11×14 prints over the TV which work in a grouping.
As you can see below I actually did a mixture of metal and wood frames which works with my decor style and I also have some color images as well as B&W.
Work your portraits in within your current art. I love art and I am not telling you to replace the art your currently have, but I am saying that you should approach your family portraits as art and fall just in love with your canvas or framed prints and show them off. What better way to make your house a home?
I love this canvas portrait of my husband and I. It’s 24×30 and works perfectly in the space selected.
This picture is a favorite of my oldest son that I framed with a budget friendly ikea frame in my hallway.
In my entryway I have a grouping of framed smaller prints and I love the way it looks.
I do have lots of portraits in my home, but I love my family and I adore looking back at these times and moments. Don’t be afraid to embrace larger portrait art and have fun with different types of frames for an electric look. Don’t forget that I am here to help and if you need me to design a wall display to assist in your own home art display, we are happy to do it.
